February Reading Ladder- Akaash

  1. The Green Mile(172/512 pages.) By Stephen King.  4.5/5
  2. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child(336 pages.) By J.K Rowling.  4/5
  3. Brave New World(115/288 pages.) By Aldous Huxley.  2.5/5

Reading Rate: 623 pages / 4 = 156 pages a week. 623 pages / 28 = 22 pages a day.

I am very satisfied with my reading this month. I usually don’t read that much and the fact that I was able to maintain 22 pages daily is crazy to me. Last year, I was able to finish the Harry Potter book series, they were my go-to source of entertainment whenever I got my phone taken away. However, I never read the Cursed Child, which is a book that I’ve been meaning to start for a while now. Ironically, my phone got taken away this month, but I had no more Harry Potter books to read.  That was when I remembered that my sister always had the Cursed Child laying around in her room with no one reading it. I picked it up and read the entire thing in one sitting; it was a lot shorter then I expected. It was a good book and a fun read, but I have to admit, I was thoroughly disappointed. This didn’t feel like a proper Harry Potter book, and I can live with the fact that it’s written as a script, but it was so different than the other books, and I didn’t feel like it was a good difference. There was no fun adventure, and Albus was just being stupid throughout the whole book, I didn’t even want to root for him at all. It was cool though to know what happened to all my favorite characters, and to the wizarding world at large years after the previous book, and it was an overall fun read, hence why I finished it in one sitting. But I don’t know if that’s because I genuinely enjoyed the book a lot, or just because it took place in the Harry Potter universe. Overall though, it was a good book and I enjoyed reading it.

I also decided to give Brave New World a try, I finished about half of the book a couple years ago, but to be honest, I didn’t understand anything that was taking place in that novel. So, after a couple years have passed, I chose to give it another try. I read 115/288 pages of it so far, and I must say, it got more interesting, but still stayed boring. The idea of this society where everything is the same and the only time people are happy is when they are on drugs is interesting, but I can’t help but feel bored whenever I’m reading this book. I honestly don’t care for Bernard and his problems, and since he is receiving so much attention within this book, Brave New World is quite boring a lot of times.

I also started reading The Green Mile this month at school because I needed a book for school, and my brother is a huge fan of Stephen King, so I thought, why not? It was a great decision because so far, I love this book. The crazy stories about death row inmates during the Great Depression is a genius idea and it makes the book such a fun read. So far, it hasn’t really delved into the realm of fantasy which is another good thing going for this book, I don’t want to read about a fantasy adventure in a Stephen King novel, I want a grimy, raw, experience, and so far that’s exactly what I got.

I only have one book that I genuinely want to read right now. That is The Alchemist. I have heard so many good things about this book, everyone who read it seemed to love it. Even my dad loved that book, and I haven’t seen him read a book in my life. I plan to read that when I finish The Green Mile.

  1. Dear Akaash,

Good job! I loved the broad range of genres you covered with your February reading. Never took you for a Harry Potter fan, nice to know though! Also seems like you get a lot of your book choices from your family, which is a really nice connection within your reviews.

To improve, I would like to mention that the way you ordered your books was not given, which was a part of our assignment; also, remember to italicize novel titles. In my personal aesthetic opinion, I think your post would look more organized if the viewer could see the book, and the rating you gave it, right before the picture of the cover. This elimates having to scroll up and down to compare.

It was really interesting to learn about your reading preferences and I definitely agree to reading The Alchemist!

    Sincerely,
    Nimrat
